ManyChat alternatives in India that take UPI
ManyChat is priced in US dollars and starts at $17 a month for Essential with 250 active contacts. Two things matter more than the price for an Indian buyer: ManyChat's published in-flow payment providers are Stripe and PayPal, with no UPI, no Indian payment gateway and no WhatsApp Pay named anywhere, and ManyChat itself publishes a help article about Indian cards failing on renewal under RBI's recurring-payment rules. If you are selling trips or tickets in rupees, the automation is the easy half.
ManyChat's comment-to-DM flow is the most copied thing in this category, and the builder is good enough that a creator anywhere can have something running in an afternoon. The problems for an Indian business are not about the automation at all.
What ManyChat costs, in dollars
From ManyChat's pricing page on 19 September 2026. Pricing is per active contact per month, with an allowance per tier and per-contact charges above it.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Active contacts included | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 25 | Any 2 |
| Essential | $17 | $14 | 250 | Any 2 |
| Pro | $39 | $29 | 2,500 | Any 3 |
| Business | $99 | $69 | 7,500 | Unlimited |
| Advanced | $199 | $139 | 25,000 | Unlimited |
Above the allowance you pay per contact. ManyChat's own Essential plan page puts that at $0.10 per additional contact on monthly billing and $0.08 on annual. The overage rates for Pro, Business and Advanced are not on the pricing table, so get them from ManyChat before you model a season on them.
The renewal problem ManyChat documents itself
ManyChat publishes a help article titled "Payment issues for Manychat users in India". It describes cards issued by Indian banks working for the first charge and then failing later, so that "subsequent payments can often fail, leading to your Manychat account being downgraded". It attributes this to RBI's e-mandate rules on recurring payments, which it says apply both to Indian businesses and to international businesses billing Indian customers.
Your automations are what answer enquiries while you sleep. A downgrade to the free tier caps you at 25 active contacts, and it happens on a renewal date you did not choose.
No Indian payment method in the flow
ManyChat's published in-flow payment options are Stripe, for payments inside Messenger and Instagram, and PayPal via the Buy Button. Across every ManyChat page checked on 19 September 2026, no Indian payment method appears: no UPI, no Indian payment gateway, no WhatsApp Pay.
An Indian buyer who is ready to pay reaches for a UPI app, and there is no UPI app in this flow. Sending them to a card form is where the drop-off happens, and no automation upstream recovers it.
How operators do this today
| How it works today | Where it breaks | What Thrivia does instead |
|---|---|---|
| A comment triggers a DM, the DM sends a link, the link opens a payment page. | The payment page is card-first. UPI is what your buyer actually has open, and the drop-off happens on that screen. | The link opens a booking that takes UPI, either into your own VPA in manual mode or through the payment gateway at 4.9% inclusive of GST. |
| The automation counts contacts, and you pay per contact per month. | A season of enquiries is contacts you pay for long after they stopped being prospects. | Leads sit against the trip they asked about, and campaigns are sent to a filter over them rather than to a billed contact list. |
| Billing is in dollars on a card. | Forex on every renewal, and a documented failure mode where Indian cards stop authorising and the account is downgraded. | Rupee billing, and the money you collect never converts currency at any point. |
| The DM knows the person's Instagram handle. | It does not know their phone number, so the follow-up cannot move to WhatsApp without asking, and most people do not answer that question. | Instagram passes no phone identity to anyone, us included. Thrivia still has to ask, at the point where asking is natural, which is checkout. |
| You need deep Instagram comment automation, story-reply triggers and a visual flow builder with branches. | Nothing breaks. ManyChat is the most mature product in this category by a distance. | Nothing. Thrivia's automation is campaign sequences to your own leads, not a general-purpose flow builder, and for pure Instagram automation ManyChat is still the better tool. |
What replacing it actually looks like
For a creator or operator selling dated experiences, the chain is: someone comments or DMs, you answer, they want to come, they pay a deposit, they owe a balance, and you have to remember to ask for it. ManyChat owns the first two links of that chain very well and none of the last three.
Thrivia starts at the booking. A trip with dates and seats, a checkout that takes UPI, a deposit that holds a place with the balance recorded as owing, and WhatsApp campaign sequences of up to ten steps that work a filtered slice of your leads on a schedule you set, inside a send window, on Meta-approved templates. That pool is the leads already in your CRM, the people who enquired plus anything you imported yourself, and there is no way to message outside it.
The Instagram DM guide covers the enquiry path in detail, and the creators page covers the workshop and small-group case specifically.
Common questions
How much does ManyChat cost?
On 19 September 2026 ManyChat lists Free at $0 with 25 active contacts, Essential at $17 a month, Pro at $39, Business at $99 and Advanced at $199, with annual billing at $14, $29, $69 and $139. Contacts included per tier are 250, 2,500, 7,500 and 25,000, and you pay per contact above that.
Does ManyChat support UPI payments?
No Indian payment method is published anywhere on the ManyChat pages checked on 19 September 2026. The in-flow payment providers ManyChat documents are Stripe, for Messenger and Instagram payments, and PayPal through the Buy Button.
Why does my ManyChat subscription keep failing in India?
ManyChat publishes a help article on exactly this. It describes cards issued by Indian banks clearing the first payment and then failing on later ones, which downgrades the account to the free version, and attributes it to RBI rules on recurring e-mandates.
What is a ManyChat active contact?
ManyChat prices per active contact per month and publishes the included allowance for each tier, but the definition of an active contact is not on the pricing table. Ask ManyChat directly, because the definition decides your bill.
Is Thrivia a ManyChat replacement?
Only for selling. Thrivia has no general-purpose flow builder and no Instagram comment automation, so it does not replace ManyChat for pure social automation. It replaces the part where an interested person has to become a paid booking with a deposit, a balance and a seat on a date.
